Amazon buys Aussie e-commerce platform

Australian law firm Maddocks has advised a local e-commerce company on its sale to global online marketplace heavyweight, Amazon.

Deal: Shareholders of Selz.com Pty Ltd have been advised on the sale of the e-commerce company to Amazon.

Value: Confidential.

Area: M&A.

Key players: The legal team advising Selz.com Pty Ltd was led by partner Catherine Merity and senior associate Suzette Caldaroni.

Deal significance: As per a statement provided by Maddocks, Selz was founded in 2014 and provides technology for small businesses to operate e-commerce platforms and process online payments.

The transaction saw Maddocks advised Selz through the early stages of funding and partnerships through to the exit in the sale to Amazon.

“This transaction is reflective of the considerable activity in the e-commerce industry which has been accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic and one of a number of matters that Maddocks has advised on in the last few months, including Australian eCommerce company MyDeal.com.au’s successful IPO and ASX listing,” the statement from Maddocks noted.
