Dentons partner launches new legal arm
An independent accounting and advisory firm has eyed the legal sector as its next expansion opportunity, recruiting a Dentons partner to launch the offering in NSW this month.
Bentleys NSW has confirmed it has launched a new legal business, dubbed Bentleys Legal NSW Pty Ltd (Bentleys Legal). The business will be head up by John Reen as founding principal.
Prior to founding Bentleys Legal NSW, Mr Reen worked for a number of national and global firms for over two decades. He most recently held a partnership position within Dentons’ Sydney team, moving to the firm in 2018 following the demise of now-defunct law firm, DibbsBarker.
“I am greatly looking forward to this new and exciting venture. I believe we can offer Bentleys’ clients a unique blended experience by providing expert advice on business sales, business acquisitions and due diligence for example,” Mr Reen said.
“These are areas where the legal and accounting professions can join forces and work more closely together.
“I am looking forward to sharing my knowledge and expertise with the team of professionals at Bentleys. Together, using our respective technical expertise, accounting, tax and legal, I believe we will provide clients with a complete, and value-added business experience.”
Nigel Banks, chairman of Bentleys NSW said the diversification into legal sees Bentleys bolster the range of professional services available to clients.
“One of the main reasons for the formation of Bentleys Legal was to be able to provide a full range of professional services under one roof,” he explained.
“We are committed to providing our clients with leading tax, advisory and accounting services, and we can now supplement these with access to high quality corporate legal advice.
“With many of our clients requiring both accounting and legal support for mergers and acquisitions activity, corporate transactions and other commercial needs, we can now cover all areas of business advice.”
Mr Banks credited Mr Reen’s prior experience as being a great value-add to the business as it steers through this latest expansion into legal.
“John comes from a major national law firm and has considerable cross border legal experience,” Mr Banks said.
“John has a wealth of corporate and commercial knowledge and practical experience in mergers and acquisitions, public capital equity raising, and corporate and commercial law.”
