Hawking has considerable experience in the areas of energy, environmental planning, water and native title and he has advised various groups including Victorian DPI Climate Change, Barwon Water, Victorian Fire Authority, the Indigenous Land Corporation and the Queensland State Government.

He has a keen interest in renewable energy projects, and most recently he worked in a project management role at Sun Energy.
