MINING AND resources specialist Ben Madsen has joined Thomson Playford Cutlers as a partner.

Madsen, who will be based in Sydney, has nearly 10 years’ experience specialising in mining and resources, acting for clients engaged in all aspects of the acquisition, disposal, development and operation of major mining projects.

This includes a number of significant projects, such as Asciano’s recent Queensland coal haulage arrangements with Rio Tinto and Xstrata, the Trans-Territory Pipeline Project, Alcan’s Gove mine and refinery expansion and developments at Weipa.

He was previously a special counsel with Clayton Utz in Sydney and has also held the position of Australian Counsel for an international mining and materials company.
