Macpherson Kelley CEO Mr Parker has decided to retire effective 6 November, with managing principal Grant Guenther taking over Mr Parker’s role as national managing principal.

“On behalf of the Board, I’d like to thank Steve for his contribution to Macpherson Kelley and especially his leadership steering the firm through the critical early stages of COVID-19,” executive chairman Damien Paul said.

“His steady hand has ensured Macpherson Kelley is in a strong, stable position for the future as we adapt to the new COVID business environment.”

Mr Guenther began his legal career at Macpherson Kelley in 2007 as an articled clerk and progressed to become one of the firm’s youngest principals in 2015. He has been managing principal of the firm’s Dandenong office since 2017.

The firm said he has built trust through consistent interactions with a range of clients from private owners, to large corporates and multinationals. Mr Guenther works with clients in key industries such as aged care, foreign-owned subsidiaries and manufacturing.

His expertise includes corporate structures and restructures, cross-border transactions, including FIRB compliance, divestments and acquisitions of shares and assets due diligence.

Mr Guenther congratulated Mr Parker on his retirement.

“Steve has been a champion for Macpherson Kelley and its people and we all wish him well for the future,” he said.

Mr Parker joined Macpherson Kelley in June 2018. The firm said he quickly established a strong management team, launched a program to upgrade systems and technology that enabled the firm to smoothly transition to remote and flexible working, and initiated the firm’s well-received rebranding.

“Macpherson Kelley is a great firm with great people who are committed to achieving outstanding outcomes for clients,” Mr Parker added.

“It’s been an honour to be part of the firm and work with it, especially through this challenging period. I’m confident the firm’s leadership and future are in good hands.”
