Kerrie Lalich has been appointed as the new chief of Lawcover Insurance, the wholly owned but independent subsidiary of the Law Society of NSW, which provides professional indemnity insurance to law practices throughout NSW, the ACT and the Northern Territory.
“The appointment of an internal candidate to the leadership role is a measure of that strength”.
Ms Lalich commenced her legal career in 1996 and moved into the general insurance industry in 2001 including dealing with personal lines, public liability and professional indemnity insurance policies and claims.
Before joining Lawcover she was executive manager, professional services at the medical indemnity insurer, MDA National.
Ms Lalich said that Lawcover is in excellent shape and is committed to supporting a robust and growing legal profession.
“I am looking forward to taking the leadership role of our company and building on the significant successes we have achieved over the last eight years,” Ms Lalich said.
“We will continue to deliver our [award-winning] insurance and professional services to solicitors with responsiveness and consistency”.
The appointment follows the decision of incumbent Michael Halliday to stand down from the CEO position after eight years. His resignation will be effective [4] September 2020.
“After eight highly rewarding years leading Lawcover through a period of significant change, I decided it is time for new leadership to carry the company forward,” Mr Halliday said of his departure.
“I am thrilled that the [board] has appointed Kerrie, my colleague of 10 years. This is certainly a highlight for me and an excellent note on which to leave the company”.
Mr West thanked Mr Halliday for his outstanding leadership and enormous contribution to Lawcover and the profession.
“He has taken us through a successful period of growth and change with vision, enthusiasm, commitment and skill. We wish him well in his future endeavours,” Mr West added.
