Kingston Reid – which opened in November of last year and has offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth – has promoted special counsel Katie Sweatman (industrial relations, employment, and discrimination law, Melbourne) and Dominic Fleeton (industrial relations, safety and employment, Melbourne) to the partnership ranks, bringing the total number of partners at the firm to 11.

In addition, the firm has promoted Kathryn Maric in Perth to special counsel and Sophie Baartz and Les Maroun, both in Sydney, to senior associate.

Firm managing partner Alice DeBoos said that the promotions were “due recognition of their outstanding work”.

Speaking about the two new partners, she said: “Katie’s clients value her no-nonsense approach to handling workplace and broader people matters, which, together with her track record for thinking outside the box, leads to innovative solutions to actual and potential problems. She adopts an insightful and nuanced approach to managing challenging employment situations, conducting workplace investigations and navigating complex bargaining and industrial disputes.”

“Dominic’s skill set includes the ability to identify a client’s objectives and priorities, work with them to devise options that are geared towards achieving them, and then [pursue] the chosen course of action with energy, efficiency and enthusiasm,” Ms DeBoos continued.

“He takes great pride [in] assisting clients to develop and successfully implement industrial relations strategies and, in doing so, achieving their desired objectives, such as bargaining and obtaining approval of an enterprise agreement, achieving structural change or completing a major project without unnecessary disputation and delay,” she added.
