K&L Gates appoints new special counsel

K&L Gates has announced it has hired a new special counsel, who joins the firm’s Sydney office.

Rohan Purdy (pictured) has joined K&L Gates’ Sydney office, where he will work in the corporate and transactional team.

In his new role, Mr Purdy will be responsible for advising clients on a broad range of corporate and transactional matters, with a particular focus on capital markets transactions such as placements, IPOs, underwritings, buy-backs and share consolidations, takeovers and mergers, ASX listing rules compliance, company secretarial and corporate governance matters, and general corporate and commercial arrangements.

Throughout his career, Mr Purdy has gained experience as a corporate lawyer and governance professional by working across various sectors. These include investment banking, financial services, funds management, asset management and real estate.

Prior to joining K&L Gates, Mr Purdy was general counsel and company secretary for ASX-listed Astro Japan Property Group for almost eight years. In this role he was responsible for all legal, regulatory, company secretarial, compliance and risk obligations.

Prior to that he worked as a senior legal counsel at Babcock & Brown and the ASX, and also worked in private practice as a senior associate for DibbsBarker.

Emma Musgrave (née Ryan) is the managing editor, professional services at Momentum Media.

Emma has worked for Momentum Media since 2015, including five years spent as the editor of the company's legal brand - Lawyers Weekly. Throughout her time at Momentum, she has been responsible for breaking some of the biggest stories in corporate Australia. In addition, she has produced exclusive multimedia and event content related to the company's respective brands and audiences. 

Prior to joining Momentum Media, Emma worked in breakfast radio, delivering news to the Central West region of NSW, before taking on a radio journalist role at Southern Cross Austereo, based in Townsville, North Queensland.

She holds a Bachelor of Communications (Journalism) degree from Charles Sturt University.
