G+T takes Deloitte tax partner
Gilbert + Tobin has announced it has appointed a new leader of its tax team, who joins after a nine-year tenure at Deloitte.

Muhunthan Kanagaratnam (pictured) has been welcomed to Gilbert + Tobin as the firm looks to strengthen its corporate advisory practice. His new role will see him involved in structuring transactions and fundraisings at an early stage and working as part of the broader G+T transactional team, while growing the firm’s tax controversy and policy work.
He helped rebuild Deloitte’s M&A tax practice in Sydney, before building its M&A tax and international tax practices in Brisbane.
Interestingly, Mr Kanagaratnam was a founding member of the Gilbert + Tobin tax team before his tenure at Deloitte.
Gilbert + Tobin managing partner Danny Gilbert AM said he is delighted to welcome someone of Mr Kanagaratnam’s calibre back to the firm.
“Muhunthan has an exceptional reputation, is highly regarded by the clients he works with and brings a wealth of experience in transactions,” he said.
“He will be a terrific addition to our already formidable tax presence.”
Mr Kanagaratnam said he is equally pleased by his return to Gilbert + Tobin.
“It is exciting to be shaping the future of the tax practice of such a dynamic and driven firm, with the freedom and support needed to succeed,” he said.
