The president-elect of the Law Society of Tasmania has commenced his tenure, taking the reins from Matthew Verney.
Rohan Foon has this month stepped up to lead the Law Society of Tasmania as its president. He replaced outgoing president and Devonport lawyer Matthew Verney.
In 2004 Mr Foon graduated from the University of Tasmania, having completed a double degree in economics and law with first class honours.
After his studies, Mr Foon served as an associate to Supreme Court Justice the Honourable Ewan Crawford in 2005. The judge, who was subsequently appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Tasmania, was himself a partner at Douglas & Collins and also served as president of the state's law society from 1979 to 1980.
Tasmania’s incumbent law society president is a member of the state disciplinary tribunal for the legal profession and a criminal injuries compensation commissioner. He currently serves as the chairman of the Launceston Touch Football Association Tribunal and is also a member of the board of the Encore Theatre Company.
Mr Foon is a former deputy chairman of the Tasmanian Racing Appeal Board and a former member of the Northern Tasmania Football Association Tribunal.
