HSF leader jumps ship
High-profile M&A deputy senior partner Mark Crean has started at Jones Day after more than 24 years with Herbert Smith Freehills.

Mr Crean (pictured) joined global firm Jones Day last week, after announcing his decision to depart HSF in June. He has been appointed as a partner in the Sydney office where he will lead the firm’s national M&A practice.
Mr Crean has held a number of leadership positions during his career, serving as head of Freehills corporate practice for six years and chairman immediately prior to the 2012 merger with Herbert Smith. Mr Crean was also seconded to the real estate giant Lend Lease as its general counsel in 2006.
Mr Crean recently acted for Pepper Group on its ASX listing, the Macquarie Bank/Pepper Group consortium on its bid for GE’s consumer finance business, CHAMP and Ooh! Media on Ooh! Media’s ASX listing, and Resimac on the contested acquisition of RHG Mortgage Corporation.
“I’m looking forward to being part of this great firm and contributing to the growth of a strong transactional team in Australia,” said Mr Crean.
