Karen Gaston, a Queensland Law Society-accredited specialist in succession law, has joined Thynne + Macartney from de Groots.

Ms Gaston has more than 10 years' experience in wills and estates law, and with applications to QCAT and the Supreme Court relating to enduring powers of attorney and the appointment of guardians and administrators for persons without capacity.

Ms Gaston specialised in estate litigation for a number of years, but more recently has extended her practice to estate administration and estate planning.

She also has skills and training in alternative dispute resolution, including mediation and collaborative law.

Ms Gaston also teaches in the University of Queensland undergraduate succession law program and components of the University of Queensland's Master of Laws estate litigation and estate planning subjects.

Last week Thynne + Macartney appointed Rosemary Gibson to its maritime and transport team, while earlier this year Ben Ades joined the firm's estates team.
