Sladen Legal in Melbourne and Harwood Andrews – which has offices in Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo – both operate under the Lantern Legal Group, which Ms Dore will now head, despite not coming from a legal background.

Ms Dore was previously the chief executive of the Transport Accident Commission for seven years during which she was responsible for TAC2015, a six-year strategy to achieve a $600m reduction in liabilities.

Sladen Legal and Harwood Andrews managing partner Dan Simmonds said the Lantern Legal Group’s approach has “always been unconventional”.

“Janet is the first non-lawyer chair of our firm and she brings a unique and valuable perspective shaped by her diverse experience with private business, the public sector and government agencies in Melbourne, regional Victoria and interstate,” Mr Simmonds said.

Ms Dore has experience in regional government and business, which will help the Lantern Legal Group position itself as the leading regional law firm in Victoria, Mr Simmonds said.

Ms Dore said: “I’m really looking forward to immersing myself in such a progressive and vibrant firm, and continuing to play a role in the development of business in Victoria’s key regional centres.”
