The director of a boutique family law practice has been appointed the new head of Queensland Collaborative Law.
Feeney Family Law director Kay Feeney was elected to replace outgoing president Freda Wigan from HopgoodGanim.
Ms Feeney is an accredited family law specialist and mediator with more than 25 years' experience, according to a statement from QCL.
The group was set up in 2006 to promote the practice of collaborative law, a form of dispute resolution where spouses work with a collaborative lawyer to resolve their disputes without going to court.
Ms Feeney said the collaborative approach was gaining momentum.
“Collaborative law is a fresh alternative to litigation that is growing rapidly throughout Queensland and worldwide,” she said.
“QCL’s main focus is to educate and promote collaborative practice to the public and bring together like-minded professionals from differing disciplines who share the same commitment to the collaborative process.”
Ms Feeney is also a member of the Family Law Council, the Family Law Practitioners’ Association of Queensland and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals.
