Mr Newman has experience in litigation for insurers in product, public and personal injury liability claims, as well as defence of statutory injury worker compensation claims brought by the Victorian Workcover Authority.

Mr Newman also has an interest in defence of coverage claims, particularly involving non-disclosure and s54 issues. He was most recently a partner at TressCox Lawyers for almost a decade and before that, worked with Mills Oakley and Hall & Wilcox.

Gilchrist Connell has also appointed workplace relations practitioner Joel Zyngier (pictured) as special counsel in Melbourne. Mr Zyngier now heads the firm’s employment practices liability and management liability practice.

He was certified by the Law Institute of Victoria as an accredited specialist in workplace relations in 2012.

The Perth office, which opened in 2011, has also seen additions, with Cassandra Paterson being appointed as special counsel.

Ms Paterson has experience in defendant insurance and general litigation and has worked for professional indemnity firms, in-house at a medical indemnity insurer and in government.

Gilchrist Connell opened in Sydney and Adelaide in 2008 and now has 13 partners and about 60 lawyers nationally.
