The Women’s Legal Service (WLS) in Queensland has been granted an additional $500,000 in funding over two years.

Queensland Law Society president Ian Brown (pictured) welcomed the decision.

“Queensland Law Society has long supported WLS and is pleased the organisation can now plan future services with greater certainty,” said Brown.

“We are strong advocates for equitable access to legal services, a key component of which is adequate government funding for community legal centres.

“Securing this funding is a huge lift for the many volunteer solicitors that help women in need on the phone through WLS’s advice line, in person at their legal advice service in Annerley, Brisbane and through duty lawyer services in the Magistrates Court.”

The WLS is a community legal centre that provides essential legal aid for women in the areas of domestic violence and family law.
