EVEN FOR those lawyers disinterested in a possible career in a law firm, there may be something of interest at the Victorian Law Careers Fair this year, as a large number of other organisations put their wares on display.
The College of Law will give attendees the chance to win an iPod nano, while boutique legal recruitment consultancy Jones & Koller will hand out brochures on curriculum vitae and interview preparation, as well as various lollies.
Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) will be handing out brochures that give details of its articled clerkship programs and the organisation generally. VLA employs graduates who “understand and have a commitment to assisting our clients as demonstrated through their prior work or volunteer experience, and have a clear preference to working as a legal advocate”, it told Lawyers Weekly.
“Further, applicants will need good analytical skills combined with a practical approach to problem-solving, and highly developed interpersonal and team-working skills.” In 2008, VLA will offer four general articled clerkship positions, one position at a rural regional office, and two additional positions for indigenous law graduates.
