MACROSSANS LAWYERS consultant, Clare Endicott, was named 2006 Queensland Woman Lawyer of the Year by the Women Lawyers Association of Queensland (WLAQ) on 10 August. The award was presented by WLAQ president Samantha Kane and The Honourable Mary Gaudron QC.
An employment law specialist, Endicott has more than 28 years’ experience. Admitted in 1978, she began her career at Hill and Taylor where she became a partner. In 1998, Endicott and five fellow partners, including husband Paul de Silva, left Hill and Taylor to establish Macrossans Lawyers. Retiring from the partnership in January 2006, Endicott is now a consultant to the firm.
Endicott has a keen interest in workers compensation, occupational health and safety, anti-discrimination and disciplinary actions. She serves on the boards of the Port of Brisbane Corporation and Guide Dogs Queensland, is deputy president of the Guardianship and Administration Tribunal, as well as a member of the Solicitor’s Panel of the Legal Practice Tribunal, Social Security Appeals Tribunal and alternate chair for the Queensland Nursing Tribunal.
Macrossans solicitor Oanh Tran was also nominated at the awards for the 2006 Emergent Woman Lawyer of the Year. Admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland in January 2006, Oanh has worked in Macrossans’ commercial, litigation and employment practice teams. In addition, she volunteers at the Women’s Legal Centre, is an advocate for refugee issues and treasurer of the Queensland branch of the International Commission of Jurists.
The awards for the Queensland Woman Lawyer of the Year and Emergent Woman Lawyer of the Year are part of a biannual event which celebrates the achievements of both an established and newly emerging woman lawyer.
