Partners and lawyers from Queensland law firm Carter Newell have joined other corporates in swimming for a motor neurone disease charity.

The firm went head to head against other Brisbane Corporates to raise valuable funds for the MND and Me Foundation.

The 60-plus team of swimmers and cheer squad cheered while the firm’s senior partner Paul Hopkins ended with a third in the partners’ dash, behind Paul Greene from Vincents and Brad Edwards of BOQ.

The MND and Me Foundation is a not-for-profit started in 2010 by Scott Sullivan following his diagnosis with motor neurone disease. The foundation provides assistance for people living with MND and their families to maintain independence and quality of life for as long as possible. The Foundation contributes financially towards research into finding a cure, but until one is found, their major objectives are to ensure those who have to live with the disease.

The evening included a charity auction where teams could bid for past and present Olympic swimmers including Susie O'Neill; Jess Schipper, Christian Sprenger, Cate Campbell and Trent Grimsey. The total raised from the competitive bidding exceeded $10,000.

"The firm enjoys participating in these events" said Paul Hopkins.  “The staff are very active and swimming is one of those events that all ages can compete in.  Many staff swim as part of their approach to health and wellbeing,”

All funds raised on the night go directly to the MND and Me Foundation.  For more information, or to donate, visit www.mndandme.com.au.
