SKILLS SHORTAGES continue to plague Australia in the legal and accounting professions, according to recruitment firms.

“We are seeing unprecedented demand from overseas to attract our best professionals with huge salaries and benefits, and as a result we’re experiencing a real ‘brain drain’,” said Michael Markiewicz, managing director of Carmichael Fisher.

Apart from the usual working destinations for Australian lawyers, such as the UK, Europe and the US, Markiewicz said that candidates are also being lured to Dubai and China in increasing numbers.
