Allens Arthur Robinson has become the first major Australian law firm to launch an iPhone and iPad app.

Phrase Buster is targeted at the student recruitment market, and requires users to unscramble well-known phrases in a range of categories, including the law.

It includes information about Allens and a link to the firm's website. Customer reviews are so far suspiciously highly praised, including: "lots of fun, so much better than Angry Birds!" and "nice app, quite some challenging phrases," with both reviews receiving five stars.

Allens web and extranets manager David Bradbury and library technician Ben Ross helped develop the app with Sydney-based company Zero 51.

'We wanted to try something different to a re-packaged, slimmed down, version of our website. We also wanted to engage with the graduate market in a fun, unusual and challenging way, so we came up with the concept behind Phrase Buster," Bradbury said.

Allens director of marketing and client services, David McClune, said the firm is now working on other apps, which the firm hopes will improve client service and simplify day-to-day operations.

McClune said that while the Allens website is one of the top read major Australian law firm websites, the use and popularity of apps across a range of tablet and smart phone platforms is beginning to rival time spent on websites.

Phrase Buster is now available for download at:
