A quarter of the legal workforce shops online while at work, a new survey of the legal profession reveals. But half the profession also checked their work emails on Christmas day.

A new survey by online legal job board twosteps, which asked more than 500 lawyers and legal professionals about their work habits, has revealed who hasn’t got time for holidays because of their commitment to working 24/7, and who is busy shopping online while at the office. “With iPhones, BlackBerrys and other smartphones rapidly taking over the world and probably our minds, it probably won’t surprise most to learn that over 50 per cent of survey participants confessed that they’d be helpless without their iPhones and Blackberries,” the twosteps report claims. “Most people seem to have lost the art of remembering telephone numbers, or what they have to do that day or where they have to be. We now live vicariously through these mini life-organising computers.” Twenty-five per cent of lawyers are happy to do their online shopping whilst at work, according to the findings. Deliveries of these purchases are made to the office as well, the report says. The survey also reveals that almost half of the profession checked work emails on Christmas day. One in eight people, the report says, did something they regretted at a work party, according to the report, and 70 per cent of these were male.
