News in brief: Lavan Legal; WA District Court
New site for Lavan Legal; New WA District Court judge
Talking, walking, speaking, living girl on Lavan site
Australian law firm Lavan Legal has launched a new website it says will give clients a more personal experience as well as promote a feeling of transparency. The firm has moved away from “a standard set of static images with staff biographies” and into something it says none of its peers are doing online. This includes having a moving deep-etched woman ask users what they want from the site. It uses video on the site to reduce the need for “long sections of legal jargon”, said Chris Braine, business development manager at the digital agency Sumo, which designed the site. New WA District Court judge Western Australian Attorney-General Rob Johnson has announced the appointment of barrister and solicitor Simon Stone as a new WA District Court judge. He replaces Justice Roger Mackney QC, who is about to retire after 14 years of service. Justice Stone was admitted to practice into the Supreme Court in 1978, and was admitted to the High Court of Australia. He has done work as a senior Crown counsel with the Hong Kong Government and has worked with the office of the DPP in WA.
