THE LATEST in developments and initiatives in arbitration, mediation and adjudication will be discussed at a national conference on alternative dispute resolution (ADR) in South Australia in June.
Topics for discussion include recommendations for the amendments of the uniform commercial arbitration acts of the states and territories; the challenges and opportunities for private mediation in the post WorkChoices workplace; western mediation and dispute resolution practices in Asia-Pacific region; and emerging trends in adjudication in Malaysia.
A host of eminent judges will be speaking at the conference, such as the Honourable John Doyle, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of South Australia; the Honourable Justice Bruce Debelle of the Supreme Court of South Australia and chairman of the Judicial Conference of Australia; and the Honourable Justice John Hamilton of the Supreme Court of NSW.
Other speakers include the Honourable Sir Laurence Street QC; the Honourable Andrew Rogers QC; the Honourable Christopher Kourakis QC, solicitor-general of South Australia; Malcolm Holmes QC; Stephen Walsh QC; the Honourable Nick Xenophon; Dato Kevin Woo, president of the Malaysian Institute of Arbitrators; and the Honourable Trevor Griffin, former attorney-general of South Australia.
The conference will be held at the Stamford Grand, Adelaide, from 1 to 3 June. Enquiries to
