Two reappointments to Human Rights Commission
Attorney-General Nicola Roxon has made two reappointments to the Australian Human Rights Commission

Broderick, who has held the position since 2007, leads the Commission’s work to address discrimination, sexual harassment and other barriers to gender equality.
She was also the commissioner responsible for age discrimination from September 2007 up to July last year. Broderick has been a strong advocate for Australia’s national paid parental leave scheme, for promoting women in leadership and solutions to the issues of sexual harassment and violence against women.
Innes leads the Commission’s work in support of the rights of people with a disability and has been Disability Discrimination Commissioner since 2005.
He has also served as Race Discrimination Commissioner and Human Rights Commissioner during this time.
Innes was involved in the drafting of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and its ratification by Australia. He was also heavily involved in the development of the National Disability Strategy and the Disability (Access to Premises – buildings) Standards strategy.
“I offer my congratulations to Ms Broderick and Mr Innes who have been highly effective in strengthening human rights in our society,” said Roxon.
“Their dedication and passionate advocacy in protecting and promoting human rights is admirable and their reappointments will ensure they can continue the important work they are doing in the areas of sex and disability discrimination.”
