Queensland appoints new Legal Services Commissioner
Attorney-General Yvette D’Ath has appointed a new Legal Services Commissioner for the Sunshine State.

Ms D’Ath announced that “respected lawyer” Megan Mahon will assume the role of Legal Services Commissioner in Queensland from mid-October.
The appointment of a new Legal Services Commissioner follows an exhaustive recruitment process which attracted quality candidates from around Australia,” the Attorney-General’s Department said in a statement.
“Our new Legal Services Commissioner has distinguished herself over a 20-year career. Ms Mahon is the principal/director of Mahon Legal and is a past president of the Queensland Law Society and a former executive director of the Law Council of Australia,” Ms D’Ath continued.
“She was the WLAQ 2009 Woman Lawyer of the Year, and the 2017 recipient of the Queensland Law Society President’s Medal. In 2011 she was appointed a notary public, and the following year she became a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law. Ms Mahon has a honours law degree from Bond University and was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1996.”
The Legal Services Commission is an independent statutory authority which receives and deals with complaints against lawyers, law practice employees and unlawful operators and the commissioner is responsible for ensuring complaints made to the commission are dealt with thoroughly, fairly and transparently.
