THE ONLY national law firm with a presence in Tasmania, Hunt & Hunt has almost doubled the size of its Hobart office in the past four years.
Louise Cooper, one of the firm’s first recruits was recently promoted to become the fourth Hobart partner.
Office managing partner Peter Forbes-Smith, who relocated from Sydney to open the Hobart office in January 2000, said the office was a reflection of Hunt & Hunt’s commitment to a national footprint and the firm’s overall growth strategy.
Forbes-Smith said the steadily growing and diversifying Tasmanian economy has led to an increase in the amount and complexity of legal work in the state.
“Whereas in the past only a few of our clients were Tasmania-based, we now have a significantly larger number of local clients.”
Forbes-Smith identified the biggest opportunities for law firms in Tasmania as the tourism, resources, property and financial sectors, as well as workplace relations.
