A coalition of legal bodies in Australia is holding a conference aimed at re-engaging women lawyers and barristers.
While 60 per cent of law graduates are women, and with equal numbers of men and women in the profession around age 30, there is a sharp decline in female participation after that point.
President of the Law Institute of Victoria (LIV), Caroline Counsel, said there was "still much work to be done" to reverse the "talent drain" from the legal profession.
Presented by the LIV, Women Barristers Association, Victorian Bar, Australian Corporate Lawyers Association and Victorian Women Lawyers, speakers will include senior lawyers, barristers and employment consultants.
The conference will examine women's return to work after motherhood and address the attrition of women out of practice. It will also address the flexibility of working for government as opposed to private practice as well as the need for flexible work arrangements.
