Some of Australia's best-known human rights advocates are set to gather in Brisbane in October as part of Amnesty International's 50th anniversary celebrations.
Amongst the speakers is prominent human rights barrister Julian Burnside QC, who will discuss human rights and refugees, and the president of Australian Lawyers for Human Rights, Stephen Keim, who will examine how human rights law has evolved over the past 50 years.
Other speakers include Widney Brown, the senior director of international law and policy at Amnesty International's international secretariat, who will talk about human rights in the Asia Pacific, and journalists Sophie Black and Hugh Riminton, who will analyse just how the media treats human rights issues.
Professor George Williams and Graeme Innes, Australia's disability discrimination commissioner, are also appearing.
