THE TWENTIETH annual Sydney inter law firm soccer competition was held on a sunny, windy Sunday (14 September) with one resounding outcome. None of the players could walk the next day.

The day saw more than 300 competitors, made up from 13 law firms, battle their way for the two victors’ trophies.

The women’s competition was a case of deja vu with Deacons and Freehills meeting once again in the grand final with a 0-0 result at the final whistle. Freehills won by penalty shoot out.

The girls were exhausted after the game. “You feel like you’ve run the city to surf,” organiser of the winning women’s team, Julia Davis said.

Davis said her team had been in training, playing in the Domain over Friday lunch times against the Freehills men’s team so all the girls could learn the rules. “About half the girls had never played soccer before,” she said.

The winning team has such enthusiasm for the sport they have decided to compete in the Domain six-a-side lunchtime soccer competition, Davis added.

The Freehills men’s team didn’t have the same luck as the girls in the grand final, with the combined team of Coudert Brothers and Acuiti beating them 3-0 to bring home the trophy.
