A Brisbane woman who was drugged and raped in Dubai and subsequently jailed for adultery has sought the assistance of Maurice Blackburn in her quest to sue the Commonwealth of Australia.
Maurice Blackburn is already assisting Gali with her claim against her former employer for failing to have procedures in place to protect employees from assault.
Tomorrow (7 June), Gali and Maurice Blackburn principal Michelle James will seek leave to commence a claim against the Commonwealth and a consular assistant for failing to inform her that a complaint of rape could lead to adultery charges.
When contacted by Lawyers Weekly, a Maurice Blackburn spokesperson said the firm was unable to comment on the case until it knew whether it would have leave to pursue the claim in the Supreme Court of Queensland.
