A new community organisation advocating human rights issues and providing welfare services to Muslim women was launched this week.

Announced by Attorney-General Robert McClelland, the Australian Muslim Women's Centre for Human Rights will be run by the Islamic Women's Welfare Council of Victoria.

"The organisers of the Australian Muslim Women's Centre for Human Rights have said the creation of the new centre will bring a human rights approach on issues of disadvantage and inequality for Muslim women across Australia," McClelland said.
