Five environmentally conscious Australians have been chosen as finalists in a quest to find Australia's version of US environmental crusader Erin Brockovich.

Since the Environmental Crusader Competition was launched by Brockovich in February, 15 entrants have voiced concerns over suspected water, air and ground contamination.

"Thanks to the award-winning movie bearing my name, we all know about the environmental work I do in the United States. Well, now it's time to do the same down under and I want to find my Australian equivalent," said Brockovich.

The finalists of the Environmental Crusader Competition were required to make a short video about a local environment issue of their choice for a chance of becoming Australia's version of Erin Brockovich.

"We appealed to those who believed the health of their local environment was being compromised to film the evidence and enter our competition," said Environmental Justice Society (EJS) executive secretary and competition judge Rebecca Jancauskas.

The finalists include Carolyn Cipp from Queensland, Simon Peterffy from Western Australia, Grant Allen from New South Wales, Bruce Molloy from Queensland and Enna Carol from Victoria.

Australia's Erin Brockovich will be announced in Brisbane on Wednesday 20 April.
