Melbourne-based barrister Victoria Bennett has accepted a position as a federal magistrate, and took up the new appointment at the beginning of this week.

Bennett has practised as a barrister in Victoria since 1988 and regularly appears in the Family Court at both trial and appellate level, as well as in the Federal Magistrates Court. She regularly writes and delivers papers for specialist family law seminars dealing with developments in property cases, superannuation, child support and international child abduction.

Attorney General Philip Ruddock appears pleased with the new appointment: “She is a highly regarded lawyer with the personal attributes required of a judicial officer,” Ruddock said.
