QUEENSLAND ATTORNEY General and Minister for Justice Rod Welford last week announced the appointment of Brisbane solicitor Walter Tutt as a judge of the District Court.

Replacing Judge Thomas Quirk after his retirement, Tutt has extensive experience in all aspects of the law, Welford said. Admitted as a solicitor in Queensland in 1965, Tutt has practised as a partner or sole practitioner for 37 years. He has practised continuously in all jurisdictions including the District, Supreme and High Courts.

Welford expressed his appreciation to Judge Quirk, who had provided lengthy and dedicated service as a judge of the District Court since 1983, he said.

“His replacement, Judge Tutt, will bring to the District Court a great deal of experience as one of our most highly regarded solicitors,” Welford said.

“Throughout his career, [Tutt] has appeared before all our courts and his extensive experience in areas such as workers compensation law, insurance law and industrial law will be an asset to the Court,” he said.

Tutt, a senior partner of law firm Tutt and Quinlan Solicitors since 1997, is a registered mediator and registered case appraiser.
