London, New York... Singapore. The world's legal employment market is changing and while the traditional centres of industry have suffered through the global financial crisis in recent years, the Asia-Pacific is offering aspiring international lawyers excellent career prospects. Lawyers Weekly examines the world's booming legal markets for Aussie lawyers thinking of making the move abroad.

Australian lawyers have long yearned for the opportunity to work overseas.

Typically, London presented the best option: its law firms paid well, its work was global in scope and it offered a gateway for exploring Europe.

While London is still an option for many Australian lawyers, the recruitment market was significantly hit by the global recession and competition is still fierce for jobs.

But the world is more connected than ever, and London is no longer the primary location for an Australian lawyer to cut their teeth on international work.

Much of the world is still in recovery mode following the global recession but some excellent employment options are still available for Australian lawyers and likely to increase in the future. The question is where to go?
