Justice Marcia Neave has advised the latest graduates from The College of Law Victoria never to become complacent and to never lose sight of the goal to achieve justice for all.
"First, never become complacent about what you know or think that there is nothing left to learn. Whether you stay in the same branch of the legal profession or move into another, always have your mind and heart open to learning new things," Justice Neave said.
"Secondly, don't lose sight of the goal of law, which is to achieve justice for all. I hope that you will all maintain the commitment to justice that I hope inspired you all to study law."
Justice Neave also emphasised the importance of compliance with ethical standards and understanding the limits of the law.
"Law cannot solve all human problems or social injustices but you, as lawyers, will have an opportunity to work towards improving the society in which we all live," she said.
Elyse Hilton from Arnold Bloch Leibler was awarded both the prize for excellence in professional responsibility and the prize for overall excellence.
