Honeymoon dive killer Gabe Watson is set to be deported to the United States tomorrow, only two weeks after he was released from a Queensland prison.

Watson, who is currently being held in immigration detention in Victoria, served an 18-month sentence for the manslaughter of his wife, Tina, who died of asphyxiation while scuba-diving in Townsville in 2003.

Watson was originally charged with her murder but, despite recommendations from the coroner that the matter be tried before a jury, the charges were downgraded to manslaughter.

When Watson returns to the US, it is highly likely that he will be charged with his wife's murder.

The Australian Government had been refusing to deport Watson until assurances were given by the US Government that Watson would not be sentenced to death should he be found guilty.

Last week, Immigration and Citizenship Minister Chris Bowen reported that those assurances had been received, thus clearing the way for Watson to leave the country.
