A quarter of lawyers spend at least 12 hours at work each day, a figure that's almost double the national average for actual hours worked.

According to a recent Lawyers Weekly survey, 25 percent of respondents said that, on an average day, they work at least 12 hours, while 28 per cent said they spend at least 10 hours in the office.

These figures stand in stark contrast to figures obtained by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, which state that the average number of actual hours worked per week by full-time employees is 33, or 6.6 hours per day.

The survey also revealed that the once-traditional nine-to-five working day is only a feature for 17 per cent of respondents, while 19 per cent said they work nine hours a day. Eleven per cent of respondents said they work 11 hours a day.
