Australian lawyer honoured by Yale

"This year's pool of candidates to the Yale World Fellows Program was the deepest and most talented to date," said program director, Michael Cappello. "The 2010 Fellows have each demonstrated an extraordinary ability to influence dialogue on issues of national, regional and global significance."
With a doctorate from Harvard Law School, Mulqueeny's impressive career has spanned private sector law firms in Sydney, New York and Hong Kong; not-for-profit interest work; teaching in Asian law schools; and now the ADB.
Throughout her career, Mulqueeny has worked on projects in the water, transport and energy sectors all over Asia, as well as forest and environmental governance in Indonesia.
Mulqueeny's dedication to these areas has seen her work with the Sri Lankan Ministry of Justice, after the 2004 Asian tsunami, to implement a legal assistance and governance project that has since helped over 50,000 people.
Recently, Mulqueeny led ADB's inaugural Asia Pacific Dialogue on Clean Energy Governance and Regulation and its Asian Judges Symposium on environment. She also initiated work on an Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Energy Regulators' Network, endorsed by ASEAN Senior Energy Officials.
Mulqueeny works on water and energy regulation in south-east Asia and the Pacific; clean technology regulation, including Carbon Capture and Storage technology, and was the lawyer on China and the developing world's first Integrated Gas and Combined Cycle Project.
She also leads a program on Asian judges and environmental justice and is responsible for legal work on ADB's accountability mechanism.
As a 2010 Yale World Fellow, Mulqueeny is joined by a senior advisor to the largest progressive Islamic organisation in Indonesia; a Sudanese diplomat who leads the developing world's negotiations on climate change; a Tunisian pro-democracy proponent who is one of his country's most successful business entrepreneurs; and a bureau chief for the Financial Times Deutschland.
