The College of Law will introduce a program to help prospective lawyers tackle depression.
Working in collaboration with DAWG, The College of Law is currently designing a module to be introduced to all practical legal training programs from 2011. The module aims to raise awareness and understanding of the impact of stress, depression and anxiety within the legal profession.
It is hoped the module will remove the stigma of depression and provide self help strategies, networking, support and resources to graduates.
General manager of education at The College of Law, Lewis Patrick, said the module is an important step towards assisting lawyers in raising mental health concerns.
"It's crucial that the legal community takes a leadership role to increase awareness and understanding of mental health issues, and that we work together with our colleagues to make support and resources more readily available," said Patrick. "I hope that the introduction of this new module will go some way towards achieving this."
