Melbourne University has announced that an annual public lecture on competition law will be named after Professor Bob Baxt, a partner at Freehills.
"I remember William visiting Monash University in the 1980s when I was Dean of the Law School," he said. "It is a great honour to have the lecture named after myself and to have William present the first lecture. He is a giant in the area of competition law."
Baxt has a long and distinguished career in both legal academia and corporate law. He joined Freehills in 2005 after leaving Allens Arthur Robinson, where he was a partner for 14 years. He was the Dean at Monash Law School between 1980-88, Professional Fellow at the University of Melbourne in 1993, and was Chairman of the Trade Practices Commission (now the ACCC) between 1988-91.
He was awarded the Order of Australia in June 2003 for services to education and the law and for his role as Chairman of the Trade Practices Commission.
