THE BARRISTER who handled former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney’s divorce was in Australia for a legal conference this week, bringing celebrity notoriety to its broken family theme.
Mostyn led McCartney’s legal team in the highly-publicised dispute involving ex-wife and former-model Heather Mills.
Organisers report that 1,000 delegates are registered to attend the conference, which begins this Sunday at the Adelaide Convention Centre.
The conference is organised by the Law Council’s Family Law Section, and will run from 6-11 April. The biennial event, which has been running for the past 24 years, brings together lawyers, judges and magistrates from throughout Australia and around the world to cover the burning issues in family law.
Topics covered over the course of the conference include mediation, spousal maintenance, third parties, the reliability of children’s evidence, tax, shared parenting, child support, family violence and consent orders.
Chief Justice Diana Bryant and Chief Federal Magistrate John Pascoe will be joined by international speakers such as Professor Maggie Bruck, from Johns Hopkins University in the US, and Chief Justice Susanne Goodman, Justice of Canada’s Ontario Superior Court.
