THE YEAR is still young, but Gilbert + Tobin has topped the Bloomberg Australia/New Zealand Equity IPO Issuer Advisers table for the first quarter of 2008 with just one deal.

With a market share of 33 per cent and a deal value of $115 million, the firm holds a considerable lead over last year’s leader, Perth-based firm Steinepreis Paganin, who with six deals hold a market share of 20 per cent and a deal value of $68 million.

The first quarter has been a Perth-dominated affair with Perth firm Blakiston & Crabb, Gadens Lawyers and Perth firm Price Sierakowski making up the top five.

Meanwhile New Zealand firm Chapman Tripp is leading the Australia/New Zealand Hybrid Issuer Advisers table for the first quarter, with a market share of 46 per cent and a deal value of $472 million, coming from two deals.

It holds first place over Freehills, who have a market share of 34 per cent and a deal value of $346 million from one deal. Last year’s leader, Mallesons Stephen Jaques, is in fifth place behind New Zealand firm Cooney Lees Morgan and Deacons, with a market share of 5 per cent and a deal value of $48 million from one deal.
