DLA Phillips Fox is on track to be named the "Flaming Galah" of Australian law firms, currently languishing in last place in website rollonfriday's 2009 Australian Law Firm of the Year survey.

Meanwhile Western Australian firm Lavan Legal appears to be the firm to work for, the firm currently in first place, receiving strong rankings from survey respondents for its pay, promotion prospects and parties, Rollonfriday reports.

The survey, which opened last week, asks respondents to rank law firms on a number of criteria, ranging from staff engagement to the quality of the firm's meeting room biscuits (see our previous article).

Clayton Utz has received a special mention for its urinals, with one respondent complaining about "splashback" - a little too much information?

Rollonfriday is also running a UK version of the survey, which so far is seeing strong performances from Norton Rose, Shearman & Sterling and Beachcroft. Following four rounds of redundancies, it's not too surprising that Eversheds is in last place, with respondents complaining about its redundancy payments and staff working hours. One particularly stinging comment: "the firm is run by a bunch of lawyers who would murder their own grandmothers if they thought there was a profit in it".
