The guide, entitled New Land New Law, provides a plain language overview of the law of NSW to assist refugees and migrants starting out in Australia. It was launched at a ceremony held at the Law Society last week by Dr Jane McAdam, a refugee law specialist from the University of New South Wales, Geoff Mulherin, director of the Law and Justice Foundation, and Mila Cerecina, chief editor of the guide.

The second edition, which simplifies and updates the first edition released in 2003, will also be published in Farsi, Arabic and Chinese. It is free and covers topics such as troubleshooting, police powers, how to write a will, how to find a lawyer and rights at work.

VIEW ALL

Copies of New Land New Law have been distributed to community groups, community legal centres, libraries, Centrelink, the Department of Immigration and Citizenship and similar centres. It can also be found on the NSW Young Lawyers website at www.younglawyers.com.au.
