Plaintiff law firms Shine Lawyers and Slater & Gordon have this week announced significant regional expansions via law firm acquisitions and the establishment of new offices.
Shine chief executive Stephen Roche told Lawyers Weekly today that the move into Reservoir has formed part of the firm's strategy to branch out significantly from their traditional base in Queensland.
"Part of our strategy is to be a national law firm with a local presence, so you'd expect to see some sure but steady expansions in Victoria," he said.
Roche added that the firm was also looking at future options in NSW.
Shine's Reservoir office will be headed up by David Barton, who noted that his firm's presence in the area is generating a positive reaction from the local community.
Slater & Gordon's purchase of for Adams Leyland will see them acquire a firm that generates revenue of more than $4 million, with 28 staff and a focus on personal injury, as well as family law and property.
"The acquisition would give us a strong position in Albury, Dubbo and surrounding districts and a great base on which to grow into nearby centres," Slater & Gordon managing director Andrew Grech said in a statement released today.
The firm confirmed that the acquisition involved cash and $650,000 in Slater & Gordon shares, with the agreement not expected to be competed until March 2010.
According to Don Cameron, Adams Leyland director, his firm will enjoy the benefits associated with the national Slater & Gordon network. "This will allow us to offer our local clients new services and practice areas, as well as providing opportunities for staff," he said.
