Off to the Hague: Clayton Utz's Alex Kunzelmann

A young lawyer from Clayton Utz's Canberra office has been awarded a private international law internship at the Hague in the Netherlands.

Alex Kunzelmann is only the third recipient of the Peter Nygh Internship at the Hague Conference on Private International law - an organization working to develop a consistent, unified approach to conflicts of law principles across national legal system.

The internship honours the memory of Dr Peter Nygh AM, a leading international lawyer, former Family Court judge and Australian representative to the Hague Conference.

Under the six month internship which begins in February, Kunzelmann will assist on a range of private international law initiatives with a particular focus on reviewing the operation of the Convention on International Child Adoption.

At Clayton Utz, Kunzelmann works in information and communication technologies procurement and electronic transactions, and he hopes to be able to apply this experience by assisting the Hague Conference move towards new technology solutions for monitoring the application of conventions across its 68 member states.

In addition to his work at Clayton Utz, Kunzelmann is also a tutor for the undergraduate international law course at Australian National University.
