Former Freehills chief executive Peter Hay has been named as one of five new directors to the board of the NBN Co, which will oversee the A$43 billion rollout of the Government's national broadband network project.
"These appointments move us to an important next stage in the implementation of this historic nation-building infrastructure project," Senator Conroy said.
Hay's experience in the legal and regulatory fields and his background in company law and investment banking would be an asset to board, Conroy's statement said.
Consulting firms McKinsey and KPMG have been jointly appointed as lead advisors to the project.
While the appointments have been well received by most observers, media reports have suggested some analysts have expressed concerns over the new board's lack of experience in internet and new media technologies.
