NETWORKING HAS been identified as one of the keys to success for women lawyers, and in Victoria they are being encouraged to start young as part of the 2008 Law Student Mentoring Program.

The program is a joint initiative of the Victorian Women Lawyers and the Women Barristers Association. The Program has been endorsed by Justice Marcia Neave of the Supreme Court of Victoria

“The benefits of mentoring are widely acknowledged, particularly in the legal profession.

“Career progression, the culture of law firms and work-life balance are among the hot topics that female law students are concerned about and that practitioners deal with on a daily basis,” she said.

Organisers will pair law students and mentors on the basis of common professional interests, and will be encouraged to meet on a monthly basis.

The program is seeking expressions of interest from both law students and legal professionals.
